Ring of Fire, FireHorse, Ramadan & a Planetary Parade!
We have more winter light and a planetary parade at the end of the Month. Orion rides high after dusk, with Sirius blazing below-left of Orion. Jupiter is a steady beacon high in the evening sky this month.
Pick one night this week to:
1) Step outside 30–60 minutes after sunset
2) Find Orion’s belt (three stars in a short line)
3) Record 3 notes such as temperature, windw, the stars or constellations that you saw.
-
Use these star reference points as a “sky compass”!!!
Start with the evening anchors- after dark, facing south
- Orion (belt stars: Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka)
- Betelgeuse (orange shoulder) and Rigel (blue-white foot)
- Orion Nebula (faint “fuzzy” in Orion’s sword — binoculars help)
- Sirius in Canis Major (down-left from Orion’s belt)
- Jupiter (bright, steady “star” high in the evening sky)!!!
- Saturn is appearing lower toward the horizon while Venus + Mercury are climbing into the west/southwest after sunset.
